What’s the commotion with diabetes?

Diabetes is a disease no one knows too much about except the fact that is it genetically passed on to an offspring and that it is the lack of insulin produced by the body that could be a cause. Insulin enables cells to absorb glucose in order to turn it into energy. In diabetes, the body either fails to properly respond to its own insulin, does not make enough insulin, or both. There are several symptoms to look for such as; increased thirst, frequent peeing, blurry visions, and wounds that don’t heal as normally as they should.
The sad part of having diabetes is that you can have it at any age. If not treated immediately, it could affect your liver and other organs of your body. Wounds sustained by a diabetic can result to serious damage to your body such as amputation of a body part.
In order to fight diabetes one must think of the right diet and the proper exercise. Having the proper nutrients and diet will help and lead you to an insulin or medicine-free life. Take low glycemic index foods that will keep your GI low and will not boost up your sugar levels. Low carb-diet is a must, eating pasta and wheat bread would do; preferably, foods rich in high fiber such as bran and other oats. A diabetic diet can help you lose body weight and improve insulin secretion after which you have the freedom to reduce prescribed medications to keep diabetes under control.
So next time you pop in a piece of food into your mouth think twice whether you have enough consumption for that day. Carbohydrate yes is important, but as long as you have enough to last you in your day to day out activities that that would be fine.
