There are a lot of ingredients in a cocoa bean that can benefit the health of a human being. And all of these health benefitting ingredients can do good to the health of a human being. But one thing that you will have to know is that cocoa beans go through a rough harvesting procedure.
Now here is the thing. The cocoa bean is picked at harvest time from the cacao tree known as Theobroma Cacao. The flowers of these trees are normally small, slim and in a form that usually comes in the color pink. One can find that a cacao tree actually produces a lot of flowers but somehow and for some reason, there is only a small percentage of these flowers that contain the cocoa bean pods. When you look at it, these cacao bean pods are rather large in size. The outer layer of the pod usually measures around three centimeters in thickness. Now here comes the amazing thing – when you open the cacao bean pod you will discover that the cacao bean pod contains so many beans in it. You will find around forty of them in one cocoa bean pod. They come in the shape of almonds and come in a variety of colors. The most common colors are purple or violet, a pale brown and surprisingly pink.
These cocoa bean pods are harvested and picked right off the cocoa tree. They are harvested by hacking them with the blade of a machete. The cue here for farmers who are about to harvest cocoa beans is hat when the cocoa bean pods turn green, then that is the right time for them to start hacking of these cocoa bean pods from the cocoa tree. A green colored cocoa bean pod means that the quality of the beans is at a very high level. On the contrary, if the cocoa bean pods come in orange or red, then the harvest is not of high quality. But there is no wastage with regards to these inferior cocoa beans as they are sold to the commercial market that sells low quality chocolate products.
